Former Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk is no stranger to injury over the course of his decades-long career, most recently with a triceps tear suffered at the 2024 Royal Rumble that kept him out of his first WrestleMania back with the company. “The Second City Saint” doesn’t often talk about one injury, however, but he revealed more to Sean Evans on an episode of “Hot Ones: Extra Heat” on Netflix. Punk said he once fractured his skull, and still feels the impact to this day.
“After I fractured my skull, I developed vertigo really bad,” Punk explained. “You talk about that, and people kind of look at you, you know? Like the doctors. They’ll be like, ‘Hm.’ What happened was I fractured my skull and there are some bones in your inner ear that help with equilibrium. Those basically kind of were like dice inside a cup that got rattled around and thrown around. So, sometimes, those still get knocked loose. If I lay down and look straight up, the world spins. There’s been a lot of matches that you see that you know a lot of people are impressed with, that I’m going through a bout of vertigo and I don’t know what’s going on.”
Punk joked that he’s going to start blaming the crookedness of his moonsault, as seen during his SummerSlam 2026 match against Cody Rhodes, on his vertigo. Punk took some time off WWE TV following his World Heavyweight Championship loss to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42, then would return to win the Undisputed WWE Championship from Sami Zayn on “WWE Raw” almost four months later.
