AEW World Champion Will Ospreay has detailed the process of putting together his match with Kenny Omega and how Omega was the only one he wanted to face at All In.
Ospreay said in an interview with Chris Van Vliet for “Insight” that his match with Omega lived up to expectations, but many of the ideas they came up with had to be changed after other wrestlers used some of the ideas they had initially envisioned.
“It was just wild, just because going into it, I had really no ideas. I had, like, feelings that I wanted to feel, but I didn’t know how to relay that in terms of the match storytelling. It was only when, like, me and Kenny sat down and started talking about stuff, and then we would just, we just came together, and it was just, like, idea flow and idea flowing,” he explained. “And honestly, I’d love to be able to tell you guys, like, when the match was hours from going on, and we found out that there were some people that did stuff that we wanted to do in our match. So then it put us under even more pressure to try and change things around and try and fit it in within our story.”
He didn’t blame anyone for the changes to their match and was ultimately pleased with the outcome, saying the new ideas were better than their original plans. Ospreay revealed that he and Omega put together the match just a few matches before they were to go to the ring at Wembley.
“No, it was like maybe two or three matches before [ours that we put it together]. We still had time on our hands, but I think a lot of it was just because we were putting so much pressure on ourselves,” said the English star.
Ospreay said he only wanted to share that special moment of becoming AEW World Champion with Omega and that it wouldn’t have been the same with anyone else.
