Last night, Steven Borden made his “AEW Dynamite” in-ring debut after several dark matches across the year. Paying homage to his father Sting and tagging with Darby Allin, Borden has seemingly charmed plenty of fans already, and expectations are high for his future.
The legendary Jim Ross got to see Sting make his way up in the industry, and during an episode of his “Grilling JR” podcast, he reviewed the son of Sting’s progress so far while recalling Sting’s early years. “I saw Sting extensively in his rookie year and second year of the business; called so many of his [matches],” Ross recalled. Especially compared to his former Blade Runners tag team partner, the late Ultimate Warrior, Ross said that “The Icon” was a quick learner and listened to feedback. Then he turned his attention to Steven’s recent activities in AEW.
“There’s one shot in particular when Steven Borden was up the ladder. … He, in the face, he looks like his dad,” Ross recalled about the shared moment between Steven and Sting on at AEW All In: London. “He’s a former D1 athlete, he’s got a great frame to put on more pounds and definition. He’s gonna be a player, there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s gonna be a player.” Furthermore, Ross argued that Steven could someday become one of the main event acts on a weekly pro wrestling television show, and expressed that he’s impressed with Steven so far.
