“WWE NXT’s” Mason Rook has made a quick impression on the developmental brand, and he has named a main roster star that he would love to get in the ring with.
The English star debuted in April and has already earned himself a shot at NXT Champion Grayson Waller. With him progressing rapidly, it won’t be long before he is moved to the main roster, where he would like to face GUNTHER, whose wrestling style he resonates with.
“There’s a few [I would like to face on the main roster]. I’d say GUNTHER, right now. For me, he is the standard of wrestling,” began Rook when speaking to “Busted Open.” “I feel like he was the trailblazer on the Indies. Wherever he’s gone, he’s set the standard. And coming from Europe as well, I feel like we have the same kind of physical style. Obviously, he’s now got this moniker as the career ender. He’s retired some of the greatest to ever do it, so to be able to test myself against GUNTHER this early on, I feel like would do wonders for my career here at WWE.”
Rook has impressed many in the pro wrestling business already, with wrestling legend John Cena a big fan of him, acknowledging his talent even before his move to WWE. Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, meanwhile, believes that Rook has the “it” factor and also said that his character is recognizable.
While a switch to the main roster is in the offing for him, the 29-year-old star will have to focus on winning some silverware on “NXT,” with his first opportunity coming on next week’s show, where he will face Waller for the NXT Championship.
