It was not a banner MMA debut for Jacob Tanner.
Tanner faced Josh Davis in an amateur heavyweight contest at Friday night’s FAC 36 event in Independence, Miss. Davis, who delivered a six-second knockout in his promotional debut in May, nearly topped that record as he obliterated Tanner with a brutal, running right hand, sending Tanner face first into the cage. The referee stopped the fight immediately.

Davis, 26, is now 3-0 as an amateur fighter. The Missouri native has not seen the one minute mark of any of his fights — which also included a 56 second knockout in his MMA debut for Synergy FC in March. Davis trains under UFC veteran Trey Ogden at Marathon MMA in Kansas and seems to be a heavyweight prospect to watch.
According to Tapology and other fighter databases, Tanner had not competed in a sanctioned contest prior to Friday’s loss.
