Anadolu Efes head coach Pablo Laso has urged his squad to accept the reality of early speculation around the EuroLeague regarding player and coaching changes, calling it an unavoidable part of modern sports.

Speaking with Spanish outlet Gigantes ahead of the Semifinals in the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi Playoffs 2026, the 58-year-old expert emphasized that while such reports are increasingly common before the domestic campaigns conclude, professionals must maintain their focus.

“There’s a lot of talk,” Laso described rumors, which include potential candidates to succeed him at Efes. “I know my own reality, my own situation. I even read that a new coach might come in my place. But what can I do?”

In addition, the two-time EuroLeague champion with Real Madrid clarified his current contract status with the Istanbul outfit while minimizing its impact on his immediate goals.

“My situation is very simple,” he explained. “I have a contract for next season. The club has an option not to renew it, and I also have an option not to renew it. That’s normal, but right now, the only thing that concerns me is winning the league.”

The Vitoria-Gasteiz native, who took over the head-coaching responsibilities of Efes in December, also looked ahead to the best-of-five series against archrivals Fenerbahce Beko, coached by Sarunas Jasikevicius.

“For me, as a player, he was a very tough opponent, and now as a coach, he still is,” Laso stated, expressing deep admiration for his counterpart.

Game 1, opposite Fener, is set to be played in Istanbul’s Ulker Sports Arena on Monday.
