Nahir Albright believes he is about to wreck another carefully planned career path when he faces Keyshawn Davis in their rematch on Saturday night.
Albright heads into the fight carrying confidence from his recent 10-round draw against Frank Martin last February, where many fans felt he deserved the decision after hurting Martin late in the fight. Now moving fully into the 140-pound division, Albright says he is stronger, more experienced, and ready to pull off what he keeps calling the “upset of the year.”
“Albright. Upset of the year,” Albright said during an interview with YSM Sports Media.
“That’s all y’all going to hear. Upset of the year. Upset of the year. Upset of the year. I’m about to make history.”
Albright has built a reputation as the type of opponent fighters take expecting a manageable night before discovering he is far more difficult than advertised. He says that pattern comes from consistently fighting better opposition than many of the unbeaten prospects around him.
“A lot of people get straight knockouts because they’re not fighting the competition,” said Albright.
“I’m fighting competition. I’m fighting the best out there.
“But if I was fighting the competition he fought, I’d be a knockout artist, too,” said Nahir about the level of opposition the former WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn has been facing.
The rematch with Davis will again take place in Norfolk, Virginia, where Keyshawn remains a major hometown attraction. Albright says the location never bothered him.
“God sending me down there on a mission, and he like I got to answer the call,” said Albright.
Albright also believes fans are going to see a different version of him at junior welterweight after spending years squeezing down to lightweight.
“I’m a whole I’m a completely different fighter,” said Albright.
“It’s a newer weight class. I’m stronger at 140.”
Keyshawn enters the fight coming off a stoppage win over Jamaine Ortiz and remains one of the biggest young names in American boxing.
Albright sees an opening anyway. He already believes he spoiled plans before. Saturday gives him another chance to do it on an even bigger stage.
