As a WWE Hall of Famer and one of the most famous professional wrestlers of all time, Mick Foley has been a part of, or witnessed, many of the greatest wrestling moments in history. Last night at “AEW Dynamite: Rebel Heart,” a show dedicated to AEW star Rebel and her ongoing struggle with ALS, Foley believes he witnessed another one when he saw Rebel and Britt Baker make their exit on Rebel’s motorized scooter after Baker’s victory in trios action. Taking to Instagram after the show, Foley posted a photo of himself with Rebel backstage, and gushed both about the “Dynamite” moment and the strength Rebel has shown.
“In my 40 years in wrestling, I probably have a dozen moments that stand out in my mind as being so extraordinary that I will never forget them,” Foley said. “Last night I had the honor of witnessing one of those moments. Watching Rebel make her way to the ring, and roll away with Britt Baker in her lap was one of the greatest things I’ve seen in professional wrestling. Being in the audience when it happened, rushing backstage to see dozens of her colleagues surrounding her – many of them in tears – was beautiful to witness. Rebel has managed to uplift others even as she battles a devastating illness that has no cure. I’m proud and privileged to call her a friend.”
In addition to Foley and the rest of the AEW roster, several other figures from wrestling were on hand to offer their support for Rebel, including former TNA co-workers Gail Kim, Christy Hemme, Allysin Kay, and Marti Belle. The emotional night was punctuated by AEW donating $140K to the the organizations I AM ALS and Team Gleason, money that will go towards continued research of ALS.
