Next weekend, WWE and AEW will engage in another head-to-head programming battle as the former company hosts World Collide and the latter presents All Out. On July 6, AEW announced that All Out would emanate from the NOW Arena in Chicago on September 26. 10 days later, WWE revealed it would be countering AEW’s show with the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event, set in the same area, on the same day.
Some figures in the wrestling world have embraced the counterprogramming. AEW commentator Jim Ross, on the other hand, is vehemently against it in this case.
“I think I know the motivation for them running an event in that city on that day at that time, which just happens to check all three of those boxes to AEW,” Ross said on “Grilling JR”. “I think everybody should promote growth in our profession, but it’s never going to happen because too many people in the wrestling business are too ignorant to see that. Everybody can help each other. It’s not a matter who’s going out of business. I’ll put you out of business and billionaire Ted, whatever. No, man.
“I’m all for the wrestling fans,” he continued. “I’m watching a lot of wrestling right now because I’m not traveling to any great deal. So if their motivation was to entertain the fans, have a big house, and put on a great show, then I’m all for it. But that wasn’t the motivation. Too many coincidences.”
WWE x AAA Worlds Collide, taking place inside the Allstate Arena, will feature talents like WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, The Judgment Day’s Roxanne Perez, AAA Mega Champion El Grande Americano, and Chicago native CM Punk. AEW All Out, meanwhile, will be headlined by an AEW World Championship match pitting Will Ospreay against Jon Moxley. A three-way ladder match for the AEW World Tag Team Championships has also been confirmed.
