John Cena formally stepped away from in-ring competition when he lost to GUNTHER at “Saturday Night’s Main Event,” but the 17-time world champion hasn’t distanced himself from pro wrestling in any way, even with the ability to step deeper into his acting career.
According to Cena, during an appearance at “FAN EXPO,” retirement has become enjoyable to him.
“The greatest part of retirement is I get to be a fan,” he expressed. “I used to go to the shows, even if I was injured, I would go to shows and still – if the show kind of sucked, you’re watching like: ‘Man, we can just change this!’ Now, I’m a fan, and I can be critical of the product, and I can appreciate the product, and I don’t ask anyone what they’re doing. I don’t want to know. I just want to go out, and sit, and watch.”
Earlier this year, Cena announced the “John Cena Classic,” which is intended to be a wrestling tournament held in his honor to elevate current-day stars, while allowing the fans to interact and determine the winners. Cena added that he’s specifically excited for this tournament because he plans to attend it as a fan, and hopes that WWE gives him a ringside seat and gets a day to just be a wrestling fan.
“I get to sit with my bride and watch a great product,” he said, contentedly.
