Rich Swann is heading to TNA’s next pay-per-view event, Bound for Glory, after securing his X-Division Championship qualifying victory over LJ Cleary on tonight’s episode of “TNA Impact.”
Cleary took the lead in the beginning of the contest. Swann struck back with a quick dance break, to the fans’ delight. Swann hit Cleary with three devastating kicks. Offering him a seat outside of the ring, Swann pulled no stops, as he dashed around the ring, and landed two back-to-back kicks to Cleary’s face. Cleary collected his bearings immediately, ran back into the ring, and connected a dive right through the ropes. However, he took another nasty kick to the face after springing off the ropes, but bounced back with a double stomp. Up in the high district, Swann hit a perfect splash for only a two count. Cleary finally got that enzuigiri from earlier connected on Swann for a two count. Swann landed a picture perfect poison rana, only to eat a Canadian Destroyer that Cleary calls his “Irish Goodbye.” Still, it wasn’t enough to keep Swann down. After a flurry of strikes, Swann puts Cleary down, hits his signature Phoenix Splash, and emerges victorious.
Swann, who is a former one-time X-Division Champion, is the fourth man among Fabian Aichner, KC Navarro, and Cedric Alexander (rematch clause) who will compete on Sunday, October 11, in Tampa, Florida, in a six-way scramble to determine who the new X-Division Champion will be, after the title was vacated by Leon Slater at Lockdown in August.
Slater, who won the title for the second time in his career at Lockdown, sought “Option C,” which allows any X-Division Champion to vacate the title for a shot at the TNA World Championship. Slater will face the current champion of the World Title, Nic Nemeth, at Bound for Glory in the main event.
