This past Monday, Penta challenged for Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship in what was one of the best “WWE Raw” main events of the year, and according to a new report, the Mexican star’s performance has shifted the perspective on his position in the company backstage.
On Thursday, Fightful Select reported that many people within WWE believe that Penta has earned the opportunity to stay in the main event scene following his match with Reigns. Despite failing to become world champion on Monday, the feeling backstage is that Penta has established himself as a major star and deserves to remain at the top of the card. Fightful also noted that a rematch between Penta and Reigns is not being considered anytime soon, but with their clash on “Raw” being so well-received, WWE feels it can book another match between both men at some point. Additionally, one source within the promotion views Penta vs. Reigns as a future main event of a WWE Premium Live Event.
Despite the numerous title changes in WWE this past week, the company opted not to have Penta win the World Heavyweight Championship on Monday, even with “Raw” being held in Mexico City for the first time in 15 years. However, conversation about Reigns dropping the title soon has continued to linger, with LA Knight, his challenger at Money In The Bank next month, being rumored to dethrone the “OTC.” Fans have been clamoring to see Knight win a world title in WWE for quite some time, but with Roman Reigns vs. Oba Femi for the World Heavyweight Championship being the reported main event for WrestleMania 43, it would be unsurprising for the promotion to keep the gold on the Samoan star.
