Over the past few years, many fans have suggested that WWE has an age problem, with most of the company’s biggest stars being over the age of 40. Although WWE does feature talent who are in their twenties, such as Oba Femi or Sol Ruca, many of the performers who main event premium live events happen to be on the older side of the roster, which has continued to cause concern that the company is failing to create newer stars. Despite the median age increasing for WWE’s top stars, it hasn’t negatively affected the quality of in-ring action, which is why former NXT Champion Ricky Saints pushed back on recent fan commentary about the topic.
“I really don’t think about age in that way. Same thing with the women. I’ve seen women that are 38 that are still doing phenomenal work. And if anything, they’re starting to get into their prime of who they are and what they are and things of that nature,” he explained in an interview with “HUGE POP!” “I just think it’s so odd that the fans are so bent up on, if it’s not ratings of a company, it’s the age of the wrestlers that are on TV. And listen, I get it. I understand like, hey, these guys are old. We want to see some new faces. I’m with you. Totally get it … But, if I was scouting someone, I wouldn’t look at someone and be like, well, they’re 36. See ya bye. Well, where are they at in the 36 years? Where are they at in their wrestling experience?”
Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Charlotte Flair, Nikki Bella, CM Punk, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are just a few of the WWE stars who are over the age of 40 and are regularly featured on TV every week.
