Welcome to Wrestling Inc.’s live coverage for “WWE SmackDown” on January 9, 2026, coming to you from the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany with a commercial free last hour!
Cody Rhodes will be putting the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line for the first time since retaining against Bronson Reed of The Vision due to disqualification on the November 14 episode of “SmackDown” as he defends against archrival Drew McIntyre in a Three Stages of Hell Match. McIntyre chose to face Rhodes in a Three Stages of Hell Match a couple of weeks ago as part of his agreement with “SmackDown” General Manager Nick Aldis to return to the brand from suspension. He revealed that the three stages would be a regular match, a Falls Count Anywhere Match, and a Steel Cage Match in that order during last Friday’s edition of the show during a verbal confrontation with Rhodes that resulted in McIntyre smashing a photo of Rhodes with his late father Dusty Rhodes and burning it in the ring while Rhodes was held back by officials.
Speaking of last Friday, Giulia became a two time Women’s United States Champion when she dethroned Chelsea Green and put an end to her 69 day reign as titleholder. Following such, Giulia will be putting the title on the line tonight as she defends against former Women’s Tag Team Champion Alexa Bliss.
Trick Williams will be competing in his first televised singles match on “SmackDown” as he goes head-to-head with Rey Fenix in what will mark Fenix’s first match on the brand since November 21. Williams already has no shortage of foes on “SmackDown” despite being a newcomer from “NXT, confronting Sami Zayn last Friday as he made an introduction to him and getting into a verbal altercation with Fenix that same night.
Solo Sikoa, Talla Tonga, Tonga Loa, and JC Mateo of MFT will be going head-to-head with The Wyatt Sicks’ Uncle Howdy, Erick Rowan, and reigning WWE Tag Team Champions Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis in an Eight Man Tag Team Match. The two stables have encountered one another in the ring several times at a series of WWE Live Events throughout late December and early January, with Mateo and Loa also unsuccessfully challenging Gacy and Lumis for their title on the December 19 episode of “SmackDown” in a match that ended in a no contest when a brawl broke out between both stables from those both in the ring and on the outside.
Additionally, Randy Orton will be making an appearance on tonight’s show after declining a proposal from The Miz to be tag team partners and leaving him laid out with a pair of RKOs on him last Friday.
We are live! Wade Barrett and Joe Tessitore greet audiences at home as Randy Orton makes his way to the ring.
We Hear From Randy Orton
Orton welcomes Berlin to “SmackDown”, but before he can say anything else, Trick Williams’ music hits and he makes his way out.
Williams says another star comes out every week to say it’s their year. He says a new star has arrived and his name is Trick Williams, then says he doesn’t know about Germany but every other country in the world loves him. He questions how people can’t love him as a 6’5″ and 250 pound man, then tells Orton to do the math and says it’s 2026 and not 2006 anymore.
Orton says he’s 6’5″ and 270 pounds with five kids and “one smoking hot wife”, then says the only number that matters is 14 because it’s how many titles he’s won in his career. He admits to seeing a star in Williams, but there’s one thing he’s not sure about Williams and that’s his decision to interrupt him.
Williams says he agrees with Orton being one of the greatest of all time and says he appreciates Orton’s kind words about him, then draws the line with Orton saying he has no brains and puts Orton on notice. He says it’s not the year of “The Viper”, but the year of whoppin’ that around the world.
Orton reminds Williams not to turn his back on him and tells him not to let it happen again unless Williams wants a beatdown. Williams slaps the microphone out of Orton’s hand, but Orton lands a pair of right hands on Williams and delivers a hanging DDT on him.
The Miz slides into the ring and blindsides Orton from behind. He fires off stomps on him, then sets up for a Skull Crushing Finale on Orton. Orton escapes and surprises The Miz with an RKO, then poses on the ropes and throws Williams’ chain to him on the outside.Â
Rey Fenix then makes his way to the ring. Trick Williams is waiting, having gotten back in the ring after his encounter with Orton moments ago.
Trick Williams vs. Rey Fenix
The bell rings and the two lock up. Fenix charges at Williams, but Williams catches him with a shoulder block and whips Fenix into the mat. Williams rolls up Fenix, but Fenix kicks out and rolls up Williams. Williams kicks out and levels Fenix with a shoulder tackle, then whips him into the corner spine first and fires off chops on his chest.
Fenix dropkicks Williams on the ring off the top rope, but Williams levels Fenix with a leg lariat and goes for a pin. Fenix kicks out, but Williams lands a stomp on his midsection and delivers a bodyslam to him. He follows it up with a Falcon Arrow and pins Fenix, but Fenix kicks out. Williams catches Fenix with a Michinoku Driver and sends him crashing into the ring steps, then slaps him.
Back from the break, Williams connects with a pop-up uppercut on Fenix. He gets Fenix up on his shoulders, but Fenix escapes and lands a step-up knee on Williams. Fenix then looks to land a moonsault on Williams, but Williams gets his feet up and levels Fenix with a boot. He goes for a pin, but Fenix kicks out.
Williams delivers a uranage to Fenix and pins him once again, but Fenix kicks out.
Williams looks to land a splash on Fenix. Fenix moves out of the way and sends Williams crashing into the mat spine first, then ascends to the top rope and takes flight. Williams sees Fenix coming, but Fenix still manages to roll up Williams. Williams reverses into a pinfall of his own with a handful of Fenix’s tights for the win.
Winner: Trick Williams
We then head backstage, where Byron Saxton catches up with Damian Priest. Priest gets into a verbal exchange with Drew McIntyre and heads off before McIntyre speaks with Saxton and reveals he has Cody Rhodes’ watch.
We then head over to Alexa Bliss on the phone with Charlotte Flair, telling her to rest up and recover. Nia Jax and Lash Legend approach Bliss, and a brief verbal confrontation ensues.
Back at ringside, Giulia and Kiana James makes their way out. Bliss follows.
Giulia (w/ Kiana James) (c) vs. Alexa Bliss for the Women’s United States Championship
The bell rings and Giulia shoves Bliss. Bliss responds with a shove of her own, but Giulia shoves Bliss once again. Bliss responds with a knee to Giulia’s midsection, but Giulia grabs Bliss’ hair and delivers a suplex to her. She lands an elbow on Bliss in the corner, then ascends to the middle rope and lands a dropkick on Bliss. She goes for a pin, but Bliss kicks out. Giulia then throws Bliss across the ring, but Bliss low bridges Giulia out of the ring and delivers a cannonball to her off the ring apron.
