Paulie Malignaggi is still struggling when it comes to bare-knuckle boxing.
The former IBF and WBA boxing champion suffered a brutal knockout loss Saturday at a Bare Knuckle Boxing event in Manchester, England, where he was stopped by UFC veteran Rolando Dy. In the second round of the contest, Dy knocked Malignaggi multiple times en route to the fight being waved off.
See the finishing sequence below.
Dy cracked Malignaggi with a right hand, bouncing Malignaggi off the ropes, but the 45-year-old managed to beat the count. Again, Dy went on the attack, pushing Malignaggi to a knee, bringing a pause to the action. The situation didn’t improve for Malignaggi after that as Dy continued to push forward, eventually landing another right hand that left Malignaggi dazed in the corner.
Fortunately for everyone involved, the referee officially stopped the fight to prevent further damage.
Malignaggi was 1-1 in bare-knuckle boxing bouts heading into Saturday, with a memorable loss to Artem Lobov at BKFC 6 in 2019. Six years later, he removed the gloves again, defeating Tyler Goodjohn at a BKB event this past October. Now, Malignaggi loses by knockout for just the sixth time in his 25-year fighting career.
As for Dy, the onetime UFC fighter has found knew life in bare-knuckle bouts, having won five of six since debuting in the boxing offshoot in 2022.
