Khabib Nurmagomedov did his best to stop Usman Nurmagomedov from rushing into the octagon just seconds after watching his brother Umar Nurmagomedov suffer a knockout loss in the UFC Shanghai main event.
The dramatic conclusion saw Song Yadong blast Umar with a perfectly timed uppercut that sent the highly touted bantamweight contender crashing to the ground in a heap. The fight was immediately stopped with Umar unconscious from the knockout blow as Song then began to celebrate the biggest win of his career.
As you can see by the corner replay from the broadcast, Khabib tries to grab Usman and even reaches to snag his foot to stop him from jumping into the octagon, but he couldn’t subdue his cousin in the moment.
While Song ran around the cage in celebration, he actually ran into Usman and it appeared on replays that perhaps the PFL lightweight champion may have thought about throwing an elbow during the brief incident. Song didn’t react, so obviously nothing actually caught him off guard.
As soon as he was clear to move again, Usman quickly rushed to his brother’s side to check on him after the brutal knockout.
While cornermen and coaches are eventually allowed in the octagon, it’s only after they’re cleared to get in the cage by the commission overseeing the event. Usman wasn’t interested in waiting, and Khabib did his best to stop his cousin from rushing into the octagon, but thankfully nothing else happened after that brief run-in between Song and Usman.
