Bia Mesquita nearly suffered her first loss before roaring back to score another finish.

On Saturday, Mesquita took on Melissa Mullins in a preliminary women’s bantamweight bout at UFC Vegas 119, overcoming a tough start to keep her undefeated résumé intact.

Mullins came out looking sharp, early, and Mesquita’s striking defense nearly cost her as she got cracked in the first round with her chin high in the air. Mullins tried to take advantage and jump on her, but Mesquita clinched to buy time, with the two ending up on the floor with Mullins on top. Mullins did not disengage on the floor, and after clearing her head, Mesquita showcased her world-championship BJJ, locking up an armbar from the bottom, and rolling with it until Mullins was forced to tap.

The win moved Mesquita to 8-0 in her professional career, and 3-0 in the UFC, with three submission wins. Afterward, she called for a shot to move into the top five of the bantamweight division, calling out Ailin Perez.

“This is no place to shake your ass,” Mesquita said. “I’m going to kick your ass, girl.”
