UFC 328 has added another pivotal piece to its fight card.
The promotion announced on Thursday that a welterweight matchup between Yaroslav Amosov and Joel Alvarez is set for the May 9 event at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Alvaro Colmenaro first reported the matchup.
Amosov, a former Bellator welterweight champion, had a successful octagon debut at December’s UFC Vegas 112 event, tapping out Neil Magny in the first round with a nasty anaconda choke. It was the second straight victory for Amosov following his lone pro MMA loss to Jason Jackson where he dropped the Bellator 170-pound title at Bellator 301 in November 2023. The 32-year-old has won 29 of 30 professional bouts.
Alvarez makes his second straight appearance in the welterweight division. In his most recent bout, Alvarez earned a lopsided decision win over Vicente Luque at UFC Rio this past October. Prior to that, Alvarez picked up three straight stoppage wins at lightweight against Drakkar Klose, Elves Brener, and Marc Diakiese.
UFC 328 is headlined by a middleweight title fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland.
