Top Rank won the purse bid today, dropping over eight million dollars to lock down Devin Haney vs. Keyshawn Davis fight. Putting up $8,550,000 for a purse bid sends a massive statement about how much value promoter Bob Arum and his team see in this matchup.
With the 75 to 25 split, Haney takes home $6,412,500 while Davis collects $2,137,500 for his championship shot on October 3. That is serious money for a welterweight title fight, especially considering Keyshawn was publicly pushing for a massive payday during negotiations.

Keyshawn is in a tough spot now. Under WBO regulations for purse bids, fighters must abide by the established percentage split once the bid is finalized. Since Top Rank won with an $8.55 million offer, Keyshawn gets 25 percent, which equals $2,137,500.
If he wants more than four million dollars, he will not get it through this purse bid split. Top Rank secured the promotional rights, so the purse numbers are set.
He essentially faces two choices now.
First, Keyshawn can take the fight and bet on himself. The more than $2 million he’s going to get for the title challenge of WBO welterweight champion Haney gives him the chance for the biggest fight of his career. A victory instantly elevates his status and sets him up for much larger paydays in the future.
Second, he can reject the contract and walk away. Doing so means losing his mandatory spot with the WBO and passing up a career-high purse. It would also create major issues with Top Rank and leave him looking for alternative fights that pay far less.
Most fighters in his position end up signing the contract because walking away damages their career trajectory and credibility.
