Daniel Dubois’s trainer, Tony Sims, believes a rematch with Anthony Joshua is a “possibility” at some point.

Joshua’s Revenge Angle

The revenge angle for Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) would be strong, as he was blown out in five rounds by Dubois in 2024. AJ was down four times in that fight.

AJ Must Beat Jake Paul

AJ will need to get through his next fight against former YouTuber Jake Paul with a victory and look good for a second fight with ‘Dynamite’ Dubois to be feasible. The Paul bout will be Joshua’s first since the knockout, and there will be a lot of eyes on him to see if his punch resistance is still intact.

Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) is coming off a knockout loss of his own, having been stopped in five rounds by Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch on July 19, 2025. Sims says that they’re looking for a “big fight” for Dubois, as he can’t go from fighting Usyk to a lesser fighter. That wouldn’t do anything for Dubois’ career, bringing him back.

“It’s a possibility,” said trainer Tony Sims to Sky Sports Boxing about a rematch between Dubois and Anthony Joshua.

Why AJ Avoided Immediate Rematch

It’s telling that Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, haven’t pushed for the rematch with Dubois. When AJ suffered defeats against Andy Ruiz and Usyk, he had immediate rematches. In Dubois’s case, he’s chosen not to. You have to ask why. It’s not a good look on Joshua that he’s decided to walk away and leave the defeat hanging over his head.

“If it goes past one round, then there’s something wrong with the fight. I just don’t see Jake Paul going a round with Anthony Joshua,” said Sims about Joshua’s fight against Jake Paul on December 19th.

“That’s what he’ll be looking at, getting back into a big fight. He can’t really fight the likes of Usyk and go in to fight a nobody the next fight,” Sims on Dubois’ next fight.
