The Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is preparing a bid for an NBA Europe London franchise, according to the Athletic.

The owners of the Newcastle football team have until the 31st of March to present their bid, like all the other investors.

Meanwhile, the report confirms also that the Qatar Sports Investments is preparing a Paris bid and RedBird Capital, a close collaborator with the NBA in this project, is pursuing a Milan team.

What’s even more interested is that those teams are also preparing new arena projects with Paris and London being the European markets with the most untapped basketball potential.

It’s unclear if RedBird Capital, which also owns AC Milan, will create a team from scratch, or will try to collaborate with Olimpia Milan, the local basketball powerhouse, which has already signed a new 10-year license with the EuroLeague.

It has also to be noted that the NBA Europe plans are not connected with the US expansion of the NBA, which is also in the works.
