Pepple controlled excellently before unleashing an unstoppable 25-yard shot in off the post with his left foot on 11 minutes.

Lincoln levelled on 38 minutes via Freddie Draper, and Argyle’s afternoon would get significantly worse just moments later.

Challenging for a high ball, Pepple clashed with Imps midfielder Ivan Varfolomeev.

Both players required lengthy treatment, with Pepple substituted around four minutes later.

Pepple signed for Argyle from Luton on a four-year deal last summer.

The 6ft 1in ace had a difficult start to life in Devon, as he took time to adjust to a higher level – having spent last season on loan at Southend and then Chesterfield.

Recently, however, Argyle’s No27 has hit a rich vein of form.

Today’s goal was Pepple’s fourth in his last six appearances in all competitions, having also netted against Peterborough, Bristol Rovers and Mansfield.

The forward has five goals in 21 League One appearances this season.

In his absence, Argyle folded in the second half against second-placed Lincoln.

Reeco-Hackett-Fairchild scored twice, including a goal direct from a corner, before Ryan One put gloss on the scoreline by making it 4-1 deep into stoppage time.

Argyle boss Tom Cleverley was without key players Lorent Tolaj, Joe Ralls, Julio Pleguezuelo, Conor Hazard, Brendan Galloway and Bradley Ibrahim due to injuries, while Matty Sorinola served the first of a two-game suspension.

Cleverley, 36, will hope to have some of those players back for next Saturday’s trip to Blackpool.
