The opening race of the Nurburgring 24 Hours Qualifiers takes place on Saturday, with Max Verstappen in action as he continues to prepare for next month’s iconic endurance race – watch it live here.
With Formula 1 on a break in April due to the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian rounds, Verstappen has taken the opportunity to enter the double-header of Nurburgring 24 Hours qualifier races this weekend.
The #23Â Gamota BMW secured pole position on Saturday during qualifying for the first race of the qualifiers, surprising many of the favoured teams, as David Jahn set a time of 8m09.488s.
The #3Â Winward Mercedes of Verstappen and Lucas Auer had originally qualified sixth, but was handed a three-place grid penalty by the stewards following an investigation, leaving it in ninth place.
The first race begins at 16:30Â BST and will run a four-hour duration.
