The clash of European star centers ended with the old guard prevailing.
Nikola Jokic, with 40 points, 13 assists, eight rebounds, and three blocks, led the Denver Nuggets in the 136-134 overtime win over the San Antonio Spurs.
French phenomenon Victor Wembanyama also had a big night for the losing side, scoring 34 points, grabbing 18 rebounds, dishing 7 assists, and blocking 5 shots. He also missed the chance to win the game at the buzzer before overtime.
Before that, Aaron Gordon tied the game with an open dunk after an assist by Jokic.
It was a night to remember for Denver (50-28), which is now just half a game behind the Lakers (50-27) for the third spot in the West standings, while San Antonio remains second with a 59-19 record.
In the first game of Saturday’s schedule, Miami got an impressive 152-136 win over the Wizards, with Italian Simone Fontecchio being a starter and scoring eight points. At the same time, Lithuanian Kaspars Jakucionis added 14 off the bench.
