A new documentary about the career of Shawn Michaels, from his trials and tribulations to his comeback and success before his in-ring retirement in 2010, is set to stream on Peacock ahead of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. “The Heartbreak Kid: Becoming Shawn Michaels” is set to premiere on the streaming service on April 13, according to a press release.

The documentary, which was directed by Matt Braine, with Michaels’ real-life best friend Paul “Triple H” Levesque listed as an executive producer alongside Lee Fitting and Ben Houser, will spotlight Michaels’ in-ring ability, as well as his personal struggles. “HBK” had a well-documented history with bad backstage behavior in the 90s, in addition to struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, which he beat during four years away from the ring following a serious back injury sustained at the Royal Rumble in 1998. When he returned to WWE in 2002, he returned as a born-again Christian.

According to the release, the Peacock documentary will chronicle that redemption story, as well as give viewers an inside look at his current role as the head of “WWE NXT” at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. It will feature commentary from the likes of Levesque, Kevin Nash, The Undertaker, and Bret Hart, as well as former “NXT” stars like Je’Von Evans and Trick Williams.

Current stars on the developmental brand, such as Joe Hendry, Sol Ruca, and Ethan Page, will also be featured in interviews about “The Heartbreak Kid.” The trailer for the documentary, available on Peacock’s YouTube page, also shows Michaels’ daughter speaking about her father.
