Napoli Basketball has announced the signing of Markel Brown for the 2026–27 season, bringing back a familiar face who played a key role in one of the club’s most memorable achievements in recent years.
Born in Alexandria, United States, in 1992, Brown is a 192-centimeter shooting guard with extensive experience in both the NBA and European basketball. He was one of Napoli’s leading contributors during the club’s triumphant Coppa Italia campaign in the 2023–24 season.
A product of Oklahoma State University, Brown made his NBA debut during the 2014–15 season with the Brooklyn Nets, where he spent two seasons. After returning to the G League, he impressed with the Oklahoma City Blue and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers during the 2017–18 campaign, averaging 17.4 points per game with Oklahoma City and 15.9 with Rio Grande Valley. His performances earned him another NBA opportunity, this time with the Houston Rockets.
Brown began his European career in 2018–19 with Turkish side Darüşşafaka. He averaged 10.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in the domestic league while also gaining valuable EuroLeague experience.
Following another season in the G League with Oklahoma City, Brown returned to Europe in 2020–21, joining Hapoel Eilat in Israel. He averaged 12.9 points per game before moving to Belgium, where he played for Giants Antwerp. There, he posted averages of 13.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while competing in the FIBA Europe Cup.
The 2022–23 season proved to be a particularly successful one for Brown. With Varese, he established himself as one of the league’s standout performers, averaging 16.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and helping the team reach the postseason.
After beginning the following campaign in Spain with Girona, Brown joined Napoli for the first time in the 2023–24 season. He quickly became an important part of the team, averaging 12.2 points per game and helping Napoli capture the Coppa Italia.
Brown subsequently spent the last two seasons with Pallacanestro Trieste, helping the club reach the playoffs in consecutive campaigns. During the 2024–25 season, he averaged 15.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He also made a significant impact in the Basketball Champions League, where he recorded averages of 12.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
Now, after two seasons away from Naples, Brown returns to the club for the 2026–27 campaign. His combination of scoring ability, athleticism and European experience is expected to make him an important piece of Napoli’s roster as the team looks to build on its recent successes.
