Mason Rook defeated Tony D’Angelo and Saquon Shugars in a triple threat to become number one contender to the NXT Championship during “WWE NXT.”
Having won a six-man tag match last week against Cruz Montana, EK Prosper, and Keanu Carver, the three were fighting one another for the opportunity at Grayson Waller.
The bout saw typical three-way action with each man taking the advantage at differing stages. At one stage Shugars cinched in a rear choke on Rook, only to have one applied on him by D’Angelo.
Shugars looked to roll D’Angelo up with his feet on the ropes for leverage, but then the referee stopped the count despite there being no disqualifications or rope breaks. That allowed Rook to regain the advantage, sending Shugars from the ring and getting into a striking exchange with D’Angelo.
Each of them went over the top rope, Rook landing on a steel chair on the outside. Shugars leaped from the steel steps to take out Rook and D’Angelo and returned to the ring with the former champion. But then Rook returned to the ring and delivered a cannonball to D’Angelo in the corner, only to receive a Tornado DDT from Shugars.
Shugars splashed D’Angelo from the top rope and went for the cover, but Tristan Angels pulled the referee out of the ring to break the count. Shugars and Angels continued to brawl as Rook took advantage once again, D’Angelo’s back giving out and allowing Rook to land a Blue Thunderbomb.
Rook followed up with a splash for the winning pinfall, closing out the show with a confrontation with Waller.
