Atang didn’t rush for a single knockout punch. Instead, he pinned Williams on the ropes and unloaded with a nonstop barrage of punches, giving him no chance to fire back. Williams absorbed a stream of unanswered punches as Atang repeatedly landed right hands with virtually no return fire.

The final sequence was one-sided.

Williams offered little resistance as Atang hammered him with clean right hands, leaving the referee with little choice but to intervene. The action was briefly halted after Williams’ mouthpiece came out, but his body language made it obvious he had no desire to continue. Moments later, the referee officially waved off the contest, giving Atang another early stoppage victory.

Williams had been competitive during portions of the opening round, but once Atang found the range with his power shots, the difference in class became increasingly obvious. The towering 6-foot-6 prospect showed patience before exploding with the kind of finishing sequence promoters want to see from a developing heavyweight.

The victory was an impressive U.S. debut for the York native, who is promoted by Eddie Hearn and co-managed by former world champion Sunny Edwards. Atang has now stopped seven of his eight professional opponents and continues to build momentum as one of Britain’s more intriguing young heavyweight prospects.

With another dominant knockout on his record, Atang has likely outgrown opponents at this level. The next stage of his development will be finding opponents capable of extending him into deeper rounds while still posing enough of a threat to answer questions that quick knockouts cannot.
