Klay Thompson is expected to continue his career with the Miami Heat and team up with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The 36-year-old guard reached a buyout agreement with the Dallas Mavericks, giving up the final season of a contract that was set to pay him $17.5 million. He is expected to sign with Miami once he clears waivers.

Thompson spent two seasons in Dallas, averaging 12.9 points and shooting 38.7 percent from three-point range. Last season, he passed Damian Lillard to move into fourth place on the NBA’s all-time list for three-pointers made.

His arrival would provide much-needed perimeter shooting for a Heat team aiming to contend around Antetokounmpo and Adebayo.

Before joining Dallas in 2024, Thompson spent 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, winning four NBA championships and earning five All-Star selections.
