Fenerbahce achieved a big victory in Round 26 of the EuroLeague, defeating Barcelona away in one of the round’s most exciting games, with a score of 82-78.
This means Fenerbahçe is now alone at the top of the EuroLeague standings with an 18-7 record, two wins ahead of the first followers, Hapoel and Olympiacos.
After the match, Sarunas Jasikevicius addressed the media at the press conference, emphasizing that he is not interested in the fact that his team is currently first on the table.
“Well this is EuroLeague. Every year is like this, this year is even crazier. Everybody is really tight, one win takes you up, one loss takes you down. I think for people is very difficult to understand that we aren’t looking at the standings. It’s not important at all. Right now the fact that we are first is not important at all. The only important thing is to get better. We had the same mentality last year, we were getting better as the season went on and we gave ourselves more chances to win the title coming to the F4. That’s the goal this year.”
He added that he believes his team has improved significantly and is currently on a good path.
“The only question now is are we improving? Standings, are we first, fourth, fifth, at this point it’s not important. The biggest question is are we improving? I think we are improving, defense was ok, we can be better. But, our offense got better in last 10-14 games, our offensive rating is six points up, but I believe we have so much room for improvement and let’s see. This is the biggest key, not who is the first or second right now, who is going to improve until season ends. If it’s us, our chances improve dramatically.”
The Lithuanian coach also spoke about the A license of the Turkish giant.
“I have no idea of the A Licence extension of Fenerbahçe. That’s not my bussiness. I’ve just extended my contract, and If they tell me we have to go to Australia, I will”.
And he also spoke about the love he received from his former fans. “Eternally grateful for the support I’ve received over the years. You understand people when times are tough, and the Palau has always been supportive, both as a player and as a coach. I’ll never forget this.”
