The global basketball community is mourning the tragic passing of Israeli national team player Raz Adam, who died at age 26 following a fatal car accident on Highway 90 in the Hula Valley on Wednesday night.

Adam was driving his vehicle when the collision occurred. The driver of the other vehicle, a 39-year-old man, was lightly injured in the accident and was evacuated by Magen David Adom paramedics to Ziv Medical Center in Safed.

The Netanya native was an elite guard who first gained international prominence on the youth stage, playing a crucial role alongside future NBA player Deni Avdija during Israel’s historic back-to-back gold medal runs at the FIBA U20 European Championships in 2018 and 2019. This early success catapulted his career to the highest level, and he ultimately earned two caps for Israel’s senior national team, suiting up at the FIBA World Cup 2027 and EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.

At the club level, Adam spent the last seven years in the Winner League, logging 157 appearances in Israel’s top-tier division. He rose through the youth ranks at his hometown club, Elitzur Netanya, before playing for prominent clubs including Hapoel Tel Aviv, Ironi Hai Motors Ness Ziona, and Ironi Kiryat Lati Ata. At the time of his death, he was a key part of Hapoel Rivulis Galil Elyon both off and on the court, averaging 11.1 points, 3.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. This Sunday, he was scheduled to be honored by the league for reaching 1,000 points.
