A “blur” and an “influx of words” is how Rebecca Charlton describes to me receiving her cancer diagnosis. “It was just knocking me sideways. It was a string of chemotherapy, cancer, spread… it was the biggest shock of my life.”

The cycling journalist and commentator had arrived for what she expected to be a “routine” appointment, resulting in perhaps a “course of antibiotics”. Instead, she heard the words: “I’m really sorry, it’s cancer.”
