Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez has been discharged from the hospital after his sixth-round stoppage loss to David Benavidez last Saturday night, with no fractures or serious injuries reported.

ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez said Ramirez was released Saturday afternoon and is in good condition. The primary issue following the fight was swelling around his right eye, which led to the ringside doctor’s decision to stop the bout.

“I’m doing well after being discharged from the hospital this afternoon. The swelling, mainly of the right eye, is subsiding very well,” Ramirez said.

He also referenced an elbow that landed during the final exchange as part of the damage sustained late in the fight.

“Within that bad taste in the mouth, the elbow that David gave me in that final combination also remains,” Ramirez said.

The bout was halted in the sixth round after visible swelling and accumulated damage prompted a medical review at ringside. It marked the first stoppage defeat of Ramirez’s career.

His release from the hospital less than 24 hours after the fight indicates no lasting injury, with recovery already underway.
