Giannis Antetokounmpo has challenged Victor Wembanyama to a game of chess after learning about the French star’s passion for the game.
Speaking to Complex during a visit to Paris, Antetokounmpo, who learned to play chess while growing up in Greece, said he was considering reaching out to Wembanyama to arrange a match.
“I would love to, actually,” Antetokounmpo said. “Maybe after this, I’m going to reach out to him. No, I’m not going to call him out. I actually like him. Victor, I heard that you play chess. I think I saw some clips online. Maybe, if there’s an opportunity in the offseason or during the season, I would like to play against you. We’ll see what happens,” Antetokounmpo said.
Wembanyama’s interest in chess is well documented. The San Antonio Spurs center notably played against fans at New York’s Washington Square Park in 2024.
Antetokounmpo also revealed that he would like to appear in GTA 6, which is set in Vice City, a fictional location inspired by Miami.
“GTA, for sure. Isn’t GTA in Miami now? Maybe I could be a character in the game,” he added.
