Drake Maverick, aka Rockstar Spud, has been away from WWE television for a few years and has now given an update on his current status with the company.
Maverick was re-hired by WWE in 2022, a few months after being let go by the promotion. After his return, he took on a backstage role, which he confirmed on X that he is currently employed in after a fan asked about his whereabouts on the social media site.
“Hello, still working at WWE as a writer/producer. At work today in fact. Appreciate your very kind words. I get to do exactly that, but do so from the other side of the camera currently,” said Maverick.

The doubts about his WWE status may have arisen after Maverick recently returned to the ring, wrestling for British promotion Progress Wrestling, now run by former WWE stars Nikki Cross and Killian Dain. Maverick wrestled two matches on September 12 and September 13, emerging victorious on both nights against Dave Mastiff and Sha Samuels.
His return to the ring could spark suggestions about him wrestling for WWE too — or its partner promotion, TNA Wrestling, where one of its rising stars, Leon Slater, expressed an interest in facing his fellow countryman. He named Maverick as one of his dream opponents when he held the X-Division Championship, as the WWE star helped him during his early years in the United States.
