“I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but my dad is saying that’s a clear duck,” said Floyd Schofield Jr. to MillCity Boxing. “Now, all of a sudden on the same way that we were supposed to come to an agreement for a purse bid, now you want to fight Devin Haney.
“You could have fought Devin last year. You could have fought Devin when you was lining up that fight with Jake Paul. Now, all of a sudden, you want to fight Devin. I don’t want to say what it is.”
Schofield’s father was even more direct.
“That man doesn’t want to fight you. It’s okay to say, ‘I don’t want to fight,’” said Schofield Sr.
The unbeaten contender stopped short of fully accusing Davis of avoiding him but made it clear he is skeptical of the situation.
“I’m not going to say what I want to say, but it’s a little weird. There’s something shaky in there. I ain’t going to lie,” said Schofield Jr. “That’s some bitch stuff.”
The WBA ordered Davis to make a mandatory defense against Schofield in May and gave both sides until June 22 to reach an agreement. As of June 24, no fight has been officially announced, while reports have continued to link Davis to a potential showdown with Haney.
Schofield enters the situation with a 19-0 record and 13 knockouts and has spent much of the last year calling for a fight with Davis. If Tank chooses another direction or is stripped of the title, Schofield says he is ready to take possession of the belt.
“Hey, I’ll take the belt [WBA lightweight title]. Thank you,” said Schofield Jr.
