A EUROPA LEAGUE star has been fined by their own club after a display of “completely unacceptable” behaviour towards Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller.

Germany international Stiller starred as his side beat Go Ahead Eagles 4-0 away from home in the Europa League league phase last week.

However, the affair turned ugly when forward Victor Edvardsen made a gesture and comment mocking the appearance of Stiller, who was born with a cleft lip.

Edvardsen had come off the bench in the 71st minute for the Dutch side and took just three minutes to receive a yellow card when he aimed a gesture at Stiller in reference to his nose.

The move left the 24-year-old furious and he had to be held back from Edvardsen.

The Swede was widely criticised for the act.

Champions League winner and Netherlands World Cup runner-up Wesley Sneijder said while appearing on Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport: “I find it sad.

“Such things are absolutely unacceptable.”

Go Ahead Eagles slapped Edvardsen with a £439 (€500) fine on Friday which they said would be “donated to the club’s social services”.

Edvardsen issued an apology, saying in the club’s media release: “I would like to apologise for my behaviour yesterday.

“Things were said and done between us that don’t belong on a football pitch.

“Afterward, I went to the Stuttgart locker room to apologize.

“I’m a role model and I have to act accordingly.”

The club’s general manager, Jan Willem van Dop, said: “As a club, we are completely dissatisfied with Victor’s behaviour and distance ourselves from it.

“It’s good that he apologized afterward, but it remains a stain on the evening.”

Police were also forced to intervene “before, during and after” the game due to Stuttgart supporters continuing to stand despite being asked not to.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart have filed a letter of complaint to Uefa over the treatment of their fans by Dutch police in Deventer.

Following the fifth round of games, Stuttgart sit 12th in the Europa League table, while Go Ahead Eagles are currently 27th out of the 36 teams in the competition.

In October Stiller was linked with a £43million transfer to Manchester United, and is now one of seven midfielders being considered to replace the ageing Casemiro at Old Trafford.
