Giannis Antetokounmpo sitting out the remainder of the 2025-26 journey due to a right calf strain is possible, with the Milwaukee Bucks intending to be cautious with his recovery.

The Greek superstar previously projected four to six weeks on the sidelines, but head coach Doc Rivers fell short of confirming the timetable during a media session on Monday.

“MRI has revealed exactly what we thought,” mentioned the 64-year-old play-caller, referring to the initial medical update provided by the Freak after the game against the Denver Nuggets in Fiserv Forum on Friday. “Calf strain, and really no timetable for return. Hopefully, like it was before, sooner, but there’s no timetable.”

“No thought to that,” added Rivers, commenting on the possibility of ruling Giannis out for the rest of the season. “But listen, there’s no timetable either. We thought we had waited longer the first time. And at points, he was 100%. But there are calf strains all over the league. I can’t give you the answer why. And it’s happening to the high-quality players, too.”

Despite uncertainty regarding his return to action, rumors about the future of the 31-year-old point forward in Milwaukee, specifically regarding a midseason or offseason trade, are constantly piling up. Giannis can potentially move on from the Bucks after 13 years to strengthen his bid for a second NBA championship, and several teams seem ready to present an offer to secure his services, but his situation remains unclear.

A current 18-26 tally for the team coached by Rivers sits three games away from the Eastern Conference’s Play-In zone.

So far in his 13th NBA campaign, Giannis averaged 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.7 blocks per contest over 30 appearances.
