Dana White felt a little better about his own production staff after watching the World Cup finale on Sunday.
The UFC CEO dropped a video on his Instagram stories following Spain’s 1-0 win over Argentina. Following UFC 329, White blasted his own production unit after showing new Zuffa Boxing signee Shakur Stevenson during the broadcast, with the lower third calling him Jalen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder — even calling UFC production the worst in sports in that department.
That changed after Sunday’s match.
“It’s crazy, I actually teed up the guys who are doing the production, the guys responsible for the production of the World Cup for you guys to hit a grand slam home run,” White said. “Even though everybody in my team was arguing with me saying that you are the worst, I said no, we are the worst. They didn’t f*ck it up as bad as we did.
“What do you guys do? You triple down today, and you just go ’F*ck you, Dana White, you’re not beating us. We’re the worst production team in the history of sports to every show celebrities.”
White and the UFC are in the middle of their first year with Paramount under their new broadcast deal. The partnership is set for another six and half years with the UFC earning a total of $7.7 billion. Fans have enjoyed the price decrease from the old pay-per-view model, but haven’t been impressed with other things about the deal, such as the walkouts not being shown, pacing issues, and post-production of the event not allowing fans to watch entire cards.
But despite all of the issues fans seem to have about the UFC’s broadcasts this year, White is tipping the cap to the folks at FIFA and their broadcast team for their performance on Sunday.
“I bow down,” White said. “Congratulations to the producers of the World Cup. You guys win. You guys f*cked up that flyover, too. I’m not going to nitpick, I’m juts giving you credit where credit is due. You guys absolutely f*cking suck. We are the second worst.”
