Since rising to global superstardom in the 2010s, Ronda Rousey has been a role model for young women around the world, and PFL star Dakota Ditcheva thinks “Rowdy” needs to remember that.
In the lead-up to Rousey’s comeback fight against Gina Carano in the main event of the first-ever MVP MMA card on Netflix, Rousey has been taking shots at the UFC, which has led to several prominent UFC fighters firing back at her. One such fighter was former UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev, who said Rousey should be grateful for the UFC instead of trashing it.
“Ronda Rousey’s comment towards Chimaev regarding his cleft palate was absolutely disgraceful. I am no longer a fan. As a mother, you should know better. The amount of young children navigating difficulties like that while you sit on a worldwide stage mocking it. Do better.”
Cleft lip and cleft palate are common congenital anomalies where a split or opening occurs in the upper lip, the roof of the mouth, or both of an infant. It affects roughly 1 in 1,000 children born in the United States, with an estimated 4.6 million people globally affected.
Ditcheva later added on to her message, noting that Rousey was an inspiration to her in his MMA journey.
“For all my twitter trolls lol … As a young woman & fighter, I have always looked up to Ronda & been inspired by her. Without being disrespectful, Chimaev, Sean and Jon were never my role models & not people I looked up to. I simply appreciate their skills in the cage. #TeamPFL”
Rousey fights Carano Saturday night at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif.
