Chad Gable defeated Dragon Lee to retain the Intercontinental Championship during “WWE Raw” in Mexico City.
Gable was making the second defense of his title since unseating Penta at SummerSlam in August, having since defended the title against Rey Mysterio.
Lee took the advantage in the opening stages of the bout, forcing Gable outside of the ring and following up with a tope con hilo to take him out against the announcer’s desk. Back in the ring, he took Gable to the top rope and looked to join him. But Gable brought him back down with an Olympic Slam.
Lee looked to have won the title when he connected with Operation Dragon, going for the cover but only getting a near-fall. He then went for a Styles Clash but Gable rolled through and turned it into an ankle lock. Lee managed to fight out of the move and connect with the Styles Clash, going for the cover to no avail.
Gable clasped onto the ankle from the mat, cinching it in and wrenching in the middle of the ring. Lee was inches from the rope but was forced to submit, securing the title retention for Gable. After the match, Gable stopped the referee from presenting him with the belt so he could shake hands with Lee. He closed the segment raising his fallen challenger’s hand for the crowd.
