Carl Froch doesn’t believe the top-notch sparring partners that Jake Paul has to help him train for Anthony Joshua are hitting him with anything hard. He thinks the three notable heavyweights are going easy on Paul (12-1, 7 KOs).

Elite Names in Jake’s Camp

The former YouTuber Jake has assembled a dream team of sparring partners to assist him in his eight-round fight against the former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) on December 19th. Froch doubts that the sparring sessions are gym wars because that would be too risky for Paul.

All three of Jake’s sparring partners would have an excellent chance of defeating Joshua if they were selected as his opponents. That’s how good they are. With the kind of sparring help that the uber-wealthy Paul has in his camp, he has a very good chance of defeating the worn 36-year-old Joshua.

Froch Says It’s ‘Light Touch’ Work

“They’re not sparring Jake Paul. They’re moving around with him, touching him up — a little technical bulls***.. They’re not sparring him,” said Carl Froch to talkSport Boxing about the notable sparring partners that Jake Paul has, helping him prepare for Anthony Joshua.

Froch doesn’t understand Jake’s driven nature. He’s not someone who takes the easy route, going about his preparation for fights in a half-hearted style. He goes all out, 100%, training old-school style. That’s one of the reasons why he’s made such a rapid rise in the game.

Judging by Froch’s comments, he can’t fathom the possibility of one of Great Britain’s best fighters getting beaten by a former YouTuber. It would make UK boxing look bad if Paul were to knock out AJ or beat him on points.

Was AJ Always Overrated?

We already saw Joshua reduced to rubble by what was essentially a journeyman-level American boxer, Andy Ruiz, in June 2019. What that fight showed is that AJ was never as good as he was built up to be. He was an example of a fighter with a dubious gold-medal win at the 2012 Olympics, carefully matched by his clever promoter and artificially built up.

“If AJ hits Jake Paul with that right hand, he might snap his neck,” said Froch.

If Jake Lands First…

It’s possible that Joshua could send Jake to planet Neptune if he connects with his right hand. However, there’s also a very real chance that if Jake connects with one of his right-hand bombs, he’ll disintegrate Joshua. That’ll effectively end his career. There could be no coming back for AJ after a loss of that nature. How could he?
