Bill Haney says Matchroom forgot who helped them grow after Eddie Hearn ruled out paying Devin Haney the money he wants

Bill’s message was a direct shot at what he perceives as a lack of loyalty from the promotional giant. He pointed out that Matchroom wasn’t sitting at the top of the mountain when the Haneys first climbed aboard.

According to Bill, Devin was a cornerstone of that U.S. expansion, and now that the house is built, Hearn is acting like he doesn’t need the people who helped him frame it.

“Matchroom wasn’t #1 when we signed. Now you are,” said Bill Haney on X. Growth like that comes from the right partnerships. We stood with you when it mattered, but loyalty was never reciprocated.”

The post came after Hearn said he could not make a deal for Haney under the current financial terms. Hearn said Matchroom no longer needs to hand out oversized guarantees to bring in talent because the company already has a strong roster and stable business.

That exchange points to the bigger issue around Haney right now. His market price was built during an era when streaming platforms and outside money were paying aggressive guarantees. Traditional promoters now appear less willing to match those figures unless a fight can clearly return the investment.

Bill Haney sees it differently. Their view is that Devin backed Matchroom when the company was still growing in the U.S., helped bring visibility through title wins and major fights, and should not be treated as expendable now.

The truth is probably simpler than either side wants to say publicly. Devin is a strong name, but promoters only pay top money when they see a clear event attached to it. Without that event, respect alone usually doesn’t cash the check.
