FC Bayern Munich has officially announced a contract extension for 29-year-old guard Andreas Obst. The deal secures the elite sharpshooter’s future with the club, keeping him in Munich through the conclusion of the 2028–29 season.

Following weeks of speculation regarding the German international’s future and a recent report about a deal with the German guard, the EuroLeague outfit formally finalized the agreement on Monday. The extension ensures that one of Europe’s premier perimeter threats will remain a cornerstone of the Bayern roster for the foreseeable future.

Per the press release: “Everyone wanted it, and now it’s officially done: Andreas Obst, both a world and European champion and this season the EuroLeague’s most prolific three-point shooter, has extended his contract with FC Bayern Basketball by another three years. The 29-year-old shooting guard, who has been with Bayern since 2021, signed the deal—now valid through 2029—on Monday morning in the presence of club president Herbert Hainer.

“As everyone can imagine, we are very proud and happy that Andi Obst is staying with us. He is the face of FC Bayern Basketball and has long been part of the Bayern family,” said Hainer. “In our opinion, Andi is not only the best long-range shooter in Europe, but thanks to his character he is more than just an outstanding basketball player. We made it very clear to him that the club has big ambitions in basketball—and so does Andi. The fact that he quickly decided to stay with FC Bayern Basketball shows that the most lucrative offer certainly wasn’t the decisive factor for him—that speaks for him and for our relationship with him. He has found a home here, and that is immensely valuable. This is a great day for all of FC Bayern.”

“A quick decision from the heart”

Andreas Obst also emphasized his special bond with Munich and the city’s basketball community: “I am very, very happy to be able to stay at Bayern, because Munich has also become my home over the past five years—I just feel very comfortable here. The setup at FC Bayern Basketball is perfect for me, so I didn’t have to think long. We still have big plans and I’m not finished here yet; I want to achieve even more with this club. Bayern has now done everything possible to keep me, and I value that greatly and am grateful for the immense trust. That’s why this was a very quick decision from the heart. Because what am I missing here, really? Nothing at all. I hope I can continue to take on a lot of responsibility for the club—that’s my goal.”

After captain Vladimir Lucic, who is playing his tenth season for Munich, Obst is already the second-longest-serving player in the ranks of the German champions. Following the World Cup triumph in 2023 with the national team, he has steadily taken his game to the next level at Bayern. In the EuroLeague, he is currently FC Bayern Basketball’s leading scorer with an average of 15.5 points, and likewise in the Bundesliga (14.9 ppg).

A first at FC Bayern: a merchandise line for the contract extension

In the EuroLeague, the highest European competition, Obst has reached the 30-point mark in a game three times this season and so far has hit 86 three-pointers at a 40.2 percent clip—more than any other player. His eleven threes in a single game, recorded a year ago against FC Barcelona, are a record. In the club representatives’ poll at the start of the year, he was once again—just as in 2025—voted the “Pure Shooter” of the top competition.

“This personnel decision is great news for us and all fans,” said FCBB sporting director Dragan Tarlac. “Andi has raised his game to a very high level through a lot of personal effort and is carrying us this season. Basketball Europe rightly envies us for him, and the fact that he is staying with us is a great achievement by the club. As a defining figure of identification, Andi—with this commitment—is the perfect franchise player for the coming years. We will continue to develop our team around him.”

Pesic, Mumbrú and Hoeneß also offer their congratulations

To mark the early resolution of this key personnel matter, FC Bayern has—for the first time ever in connection with a professional’s contract extension—launched a small merchandise collection in Andi Obst’s name. The T-shirts, caps and mugs are available immediately in the online shop and at FC Bayern Basketball home games, with the first availability expected on Tuesday evening (8 p.m.) at the SAP Garden for the BBL game against Braunschweig.

“FC Bayern is known for firmly anchoring its sporting greats within the club. This first for our organization is a special sign of our appreciation for Andi Obst,” explained club chief Hainer. An appreciative Obst replied: “This is pretty crazy, and I have to pinch myself that this is actually happening. This recognition makes me very proud. I think the shirt is cool, and I’ll definitely give my grandma and grandpa a couple of mugs—then they can see me right away in the morning with their tea.”
