Goretzka was linked with a move to Tottenham last month.

But according to German football reporter Christian Falk, Arsenal could be his destination this summer.

The Gunners confirmed on Sunday that Mikel Merino would require surgery following a foot injury sustained against Manchester United.

Following the Spaniard’s injury, Falk claims that Mikel Arteta‘s side were interested in signing Goretzka.

By this point, however, the midfielder had already confirmed that he would be seeing out the remainder of his Bayern contract.

Goretzka is said to believe that his playing style would suit the rough and tumble of the Premier League.

And it’s claimed that there is a “strong chance” that he would join Arsenal.

Goretzka has gone on to play 292 times for the German giants, scoring 47 times and laying on 48 assists.

He has an extraordinary medal haul – having won six league titles, two domestic cups, a Champions League and Club World Cup.

After Merino’s injury, Arteta admitted that Arsenal were “on it” when it came to looking at midfield reinforcements.

He said: “I wouldn’t say relaxed.

“I think we are on it, and it’s our responsibility, when we are playing for what we are playing, to give ourselves the best opportunity and chance to look at the market, every option, evaluate them, and then make a decision whether we do something.”
