“Munguia says his experience will be the difference, but Plant was more experienced than me too,” Resendiz said from training camp with Manny Robles. “He had faced bigger names, but I’m a fighter who keeps getting better and better. There are no limits. That’s what I want to show people on May 2.”
That may be the clearest sign yet of how Resendiz views this matchup. He is not entering as a champion hoping to protect a belt. He sounds like a man who believes the Plant victory was only the start.
Resendiz also made clear that Munguia is not being overlooked, saying he has followed the former titleholder for years and respects what he brings.
“I’ve studied him quite a bit. I’ve been watching him since I was starting my climb as a professional. He’s a gritty Mexican boxer with a wealth of experience.”
The danger for Munguia is that Resendiz is arriving with confidence built from a career-changing win, while still believing he has more room to improve. Fighters with that mindset can be hard to deal with once the first few rounds pass.
Although Munguia has been in the spotlight for over a decade, those miles on the odometer might be catching up with him, especially after the rocky stretch he has had recently.
The December 2024 loss to Bruno Surace was a massive wake-up call that exposed some serious defensive holes.
Even though Munguia avenged that loss in May 2025 with a unanimous decision in Riyadh, the fact that he was stopped by a relatively unknown opponent in the first place suggests his “wealth of experience” hasn’t necessarily made him harder to hit.
Munguia turned pro in 2013 at just 16 years old. Having 47 professional fights by age 29 is a lot of physical toll, especially given his “gritty” style where he often relies on taking two shots to land one.
Armando Resendiz is the literal opposite of an old 29. He has significantly fewer miles on him and is coming off the best performance of his life against Caleb Plant.
Resendiz has only been in 18 pro fights. He hasn’t been through the decade-plus of grueling camps that Munguia has.
