Arman Tsarukyan put his money where his mouth is. Literally.
Next Sunday, Ilia Topuria looks to unify his lightweight title against interim champion Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC White House. Topuria is a substantial betting favorite heading into the fight, and most expect him to make quick work of Gaethje. But despite public opinion, Tsarukyan believes that people shouldn’t count Gaethje out, and now he’s backed that up in a big way.
“I want Ilia,” Tsarukyan said before placing the wager. “But Gaethje, bro. Every time Gaethje fought, everybody thought he’s going to lose, but he always won. Even last one.”
The whole scene unfolded while Tsarukyan was on stream with Deen The Great on a boat, with Tsarukyan originally wanting to place a $50,000 wager, before getting talked into upping the stakes. Eventually, he made the bet, and quickly became excited about what could happen should he win the enormous payout.
“Bro, Gaethje, please,” Tsarukyan said. “Just knock him out, and next day, I’ll go and get the plane. Down payment on a plane.
“We should get him a good watch,” Tsarukyan added about Gaethje.
It wasn’t all smiles, though. Shortly after the excitement of locking in the bet subsided, Tsarukyan realized that he may not win the bet, and after joking about how his father was going to call him about this as soon as he saw, Tsarukyan reckoned with the enormity of the wager.
”It’s not easy to make $1 million,” Tsarukyan said. “It was easy to click.”
UFC White House takes place June 14 in Washington, D.C.
