Sean O’Malley earned a much-needed win at UFC 324, but it might not have been enough to get the attention of bantamweight champion Petr Yan.
In Saturday’s co-main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, O’Malley earned a hard-fought decision over Song Yadong, with scores of 29-28 across the board in his favor. “Suga” showed flashes of the form that won him a UFC title in 2023, but couldn’t take his performance up another notch to put Song away.
That lack of an explosive finish drew a sarcastic response from Yan, who gave his reaction to the fight on social media:
“Just woke up,” Yan wrote, adding a yawning emoji. “Anything important happened?”
Following the win, O’Malley issued a respectful callout to Yan, saying that he’s willing to wait for Yan to settle his business with rival Merab Dvalishvili first before getting his turn. O’Malley defeated Yan in a close and memorable battle at UFC 280 in 2022 and would love to give Yan a chance at revenge with the bantamweight championship on the line.
