Anthony Joshua Has New Goal After Tyson Fury, Says Eddie Hearn

Anthony Joshua wants to become a three-time heavyweight world champion before ending his career, according to promoter Eddie Hearn. With fights against Kristian Prenga and Tyson Fury already lined up, Joshua is targeting another run at heavyweight gold following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate three world titles.

“He wants to be world heavyweight champion again,” Hearn said to Secondsout when asked about Joshua’s future. This is the first time I’ve actually heard him talk about the future like that. Normally, he goes, ‘I’ve got my next fight,’ but now he’s saying, ‘Prenga, Fury, then I want the world championship.’

“That shows you the clarity of his mind right now and obviously his enjoyment of the camp that he’s in. So yeah, the focus is to become world heavyweight champion again. But obviously, we’ve signed a contract, and we know what we’re doing for the next two fights.”

Hearn believes Joshua will have no shortage of opportunities once he fulfills those contractual commitments.

“Go fight Tyson Fury and then fight for the world heavyweight championship. It looks like there could be four new champions,” said Hearn. “AJ can walk into any fight he wants at any time. He’s the biggest fight in the division, and guys will think they can beat him. So it’s not going to be difficult to get a shot. But right now we’re fighting Prenga and then fighting Tyson Fury.”

Joshua’s immediate focus remains his fight with Prenga before the long-awaited clash with Fury. If he wins both contests, Hearn expects the former champion to pursue one of the newly crowned heavyweight titleholders in an attempt to add another championship reign to his résumé.
