The Jays in Boston are over. Breaking his silence on Jaylen Brown’s trade to the Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum addressed how people view their bond and rejected rumors of drama.
“For me, I love that guy,” he recently said on The Dan Patrick Show. “What we were able to accomplish together in nine years. We went to the conference finals five times, we went to the championship twice, we won a championship, we’ve shared All-Star games together. You can’t talk about him without talking about me, and vice versa.”
The pinnacle of their partnership came with capturing the NBA title in 2024, a run that saw Brown secure Finals Most Valuable Player honors. Now, the split reshapes the Eastern Conference ahead of the 2026–27 NBA Regular Season. Instead of looking back with regret, 28-year-old Tatum offered a grounded perspective on the move.
“Unfortunately, the business of basketball is always going to play a part,” he added. “Nobody has ever played together forever. But it’s not a thing to be sad or upset about. It’s a thing to celebrate what we were able to do. He’s a tremendous person and player. I got nothing but respect and wish him the best as he moves forward.”
Following preseason games, their new paths officially begin on October 20. While the C’s open in Little Caesars Arena against the Detroit Pistons, 29-year-old Brown will debut for Philly opposite the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden to start their respective 82-game schedules.
